Peace is Possible

18-inch Deer & Willow Medicine Drum

This drum exudes grounded elegance, a poetic symphony of nature and spirituality with an 18-inch willow hoop, eight grey jasper beads, and a graceful pheasant feather. Adorned with a silver hamsa pendant, circular metal detailed decoration, and a hidden theme – “Peace is Possible,” etched within its essence. The addition of a hematite bead enriches its earthy resonance. A rhythmic masterpiece, inviting you to embrace its innate tranquil melody.

“When I journeyed to meet the animal spirit of this deer, he was so tired, which I found unusual for a spirit. I thought I might have been ‘doing it wrong’, but the vision persisted, so I trusted it. His message for the future player (true custodian) was “Peace is Possible.”
The custodian has been through many traumatic times, such as war, and has a vibrant and intricate cultural background. They must know that troubling times do not stay forever; they always pass, and peace is coming.

I wrote “peace is possible” inside the hoop, then covered it in bright silver gilding wax. At the time, I wasn’t clear on why I covered it, but now I think I was tuned into the custodian’s trained way of ‘staying hidden’ that helped them survive their traumatic times.
On the inside of the hoop, I placed a thin, circular piece of metal with a very detailed design that reminded me of their rich and detailed culture, and a hamsa for protection. It was all metallic and needed softening, so I added a stunning pheasant feather covering the writing and wax.
Then, I continued to use materials and decorations that matched the colour and level of detail already in the drum. And voila; I see you, person moving toward peace.”
